Royal Association Dynasty and Cultural Heritage

The Royal Association Dynasty and Cultural Heritage is dedicated to promoting the Belgian Dynasty and highlighting the major role of the Sovereigns in the history and development of Belgium. The Association also seeks to express its deep attachment to the Royal Family, celebrating their legacy and their contribution to the building of our nation.

The Association is supported by the King Baudouin Foundation and the Friends of the Museum of the Dynasty.

Its collection is hosted and managed by the BELvue Museum.

Mission

The mission of the Royal Association Dynasty and Cultural Heritage is to showcase the role, influence, and lives of past and present Sovereigns and their families in Belgium’s development. This mission is fulfilled through the organisation of ceremonies, lectures, exhibitions, celebrations and guided tours.
The Association also aims to highlight the various aspects of the royal function. It publishes a bi-annual journal, Museum Dynasticum, which features articles, book reviews, and other documents relating to royalty.

Historical Background

1930

On the occasion of the centenary of Belgian independence, the Society Les Amis et Serviteurs de Leopold II was founded.

1953

It was turned into the Museum of the Dynasty, located on Rue Brederode in Brussels.

1992

The collections were moved to the Hôtel Bellevue, on Place des Palais. The museum was modernised with a didactic approach to attract a broad audience, especially younger generations. After the death of King Baudouin, part of the Hôtel Bellevue was devoted to the King Baudouin Memorial.

2001

The collections of the Museum of the Dynasty and the King Baudouin Memorial were integrated into the new BELvue Museum, dedicated to the history of Belgium and to the citizenship centre (Democracy Portal). Today, the BELvue Museum is a major reference for Belgian history.

2007

In 2007, as the Dynasty Museum was no longer a museum in its own right, the name of the association was changed to "Association Royale Dynastie et Patrimoine Culturel".

2014

Since 2014, the association has also organised a number of exhibitions at the Royal Palace during the summer opening. Visitors to the Palace have been able to discover a.o. the romantic landscapes of the Countess of Flanders, Queen Elisabeth's passion for the arts, the prince-artist Charles, Count of Flanders, the uniforms of the Kings or the reign of King Baudouin.

2025

In addition to the exhibitions, the Association now organises visits, lectures and receptions for its members to raise awareness of the history of the Belgian Dynasty. The Association is under the Honorary Presidency of His Majesty the King.
